🙋 Frequently Asked Questions
Orbit Ambassadors often, but are not obligated or limited to, host community meetups, conferences, or hackathons (with Filecoin Foundation financial support), create educational content or translate Filecoin documentation in their language, build in Filecoin/IPFS and Filecoin Virtual Machine, build their social media presence as a Filecoin thought leader and community leader, and encourage community members to submit to opportunities across the Filecoin ecosystem.

The Filecoin Foundation provides the following support to Orbit Ambassadors:
- Filecoin Foundation provides funding for event venue rental, food & beverage, A/V, photography & videography, internet service (hackathons), swag, and other expenses related to your Filecoin event hosting. We also provide the substantive materials (presentations, etc).
- Filecoin Foundation marketing, design, and event logistics resources are at your disposal.
- Collaborate with Filecoin Foundation engineers on your educational content and documentation translation.
There are currently over 80 Orbit Ambassadors, in just as many countries, building the Filecoin communities in their cities and regions.

Not necessarily. Orbit Ambassadors include engineers who build on Filecoin Virtual Machine, writers who publish educational articles on popular websites about Filecoin, and events hosts who just want to bring people together about something they are excited about (Filecoin!). You’re welcome to make the most of the Orbit program however it resonates with your background and goals.

What would you like to do?
To request funding to host an event, please submit this Event Request Form.
- Please note that it will take EIGHT WEEKS to process your event, provide funding, and enable necessary design, marketing, and operations support.
- Any event requests submitted less than eight weeks before the event will be rejected.
- The Orbit Team will do their best to provide an approval or rejection notice within 10 days of your submission.
- The MAXIMUM funding for each event is $1,500, with rare exceptions for more expensive cities. Any request greater than $1,500 without prior approval from Olivia will be rejected.
- Please attempt to keep costs as low as possible without compromising event quality. Where possible, please attempt to partner with an organization that may be able to provide a venue free of cost, such as a university student group being able to reserve a classroom or a company offering their co-working space.
Thank you for hosting a Filecoin Orbit Event! Now that you hosted your event, here is what you should do:
- Registration Data | In the Google Drive folder you created in the “Host an Event” process for the event you hosted, please create a Google Spreadsheet with the event registration data.
- Event Images | In the Google Drive folder you created in the “Host an Event” process for the event you hosted, please create a sub-folder called “Photos” and put all of the images and videos you took from the event there.
- Medium Blog | Post a medium blog highlighting your event.
- Twitter | Tweet your event from your community Twitter!
- Event Receipts | In the Google Drive folder you created in the “Host an Event” process for the event you hosted, please create a sub-folder called “Receipts” and put all of the receipts associated with the event into this folder.
- Post Event Report Form | Complete the Post Event Report Form.

If you are an Orbit member traveling to a conference or event, you may submit for funding for economy class flights and hotel with this Travel Request Form.
- All travel requests must be PRE-APPROVED by Olivia before submitting the travel request form. Please reach out to her on Slack for approval.
- All travel requests must include accurate personal information AND must include screenshots of all receipts.
- Travel requests are reimbursements. Please allow 60 days from the time of submitting to receive payment.
